THE HIGHEST-FLOWING 3.5L ECOBOOST INTERCOOLER UPGRADE FOR 2017+ F-150 & RAPTOR

Heat is the enemy of horsepower.

The stock intercooler on the 3.5L EcoBoost sits low in the bumper, out of the airflow and in harm's way, with plastic end tanks and plastic charge piping that get brittle with age. Work the truck hard and charge temps climb until the computer pulls timing to save the engine. Towing up a grade or hitting deep sand on a 100° day, that is real power gone right when you need it.

Fixed from the ground up.

In 2011, Full-Race was the first to move the EcoBoost intercooler high into the grille, where the air actually is. Fifteen years later, it is still the most thoughtfully engineered intercooler you can bolt to one of these trucks. Every plastic failure point is gone: aluminum charge pipes, a threaded billet evap purge fitting in place of the factory nipple that cracks off with miles (and if that thing breaks, the party's over), CNC-machined sensor mounts sealed with O-rings. And the airflow is engineered, not eyeballed. The end tank is internally divided so charge air spreads evenly across the entire core face, something you will not find on any other intercooler for these trucks, and the Y-pipe is cast aluminum. Casting allows a smoother, better-flowing shape than any hand-fabricated or silicone pipe.

Add it all up and you get the strongest, highest-flowing charge air system available for these trucks, plus full clearance for a steel bumper, winch, or prerunner front end down the road.

Application List

  • 2017+ Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost
  • 2017+ Ford Raptor 3.5L EcoBoost

Important Application Notes:

  • Factory intercooler fans must be removed on the 2021+ Raptor

  • 2024+ trucks require the Full-Race Shutter Motor Limiter Kit to prevent both shutter motor codes. Add it at checkout or shop it separately here.

Features & Benefits

  • Enhanced cooling efficiency and performance. The Full-Race Intercooler dramatically improves cooling efficiency by lowering Inlet Air Temperatures (IAT) by over 90° compared to OEM intercoolers, which can reach up to 220°F at max load. This significant reduction in temperature helps maintain near-ambient air intake levels, effectively preventing engine knock and enhancing overall performance.
  • High-mount design, pioneered by Full-Race in 2011. The core sits up in the grille, in the airflow and out of harm's way, instead of low in the bumper where the stock unit takes debris and starves for air.
  • Divided end tanks that put the whole core to work. Every Full-Race core has a TIG-welded end tank with an internal divider that splits incoming charge air evenly across the full face of the core. Without it, air favors one side and part of your core is dead weight.
  • Zero plastic. Anywhere. Most kits, including many "upgrades," retain the OEM plastic charge pipe and its plastic evap purge fitting. That fitting gets hard and brittle with heat cycles and miles. With the Full-Race Intercooler, aluminum charge piping replaces the brittle factory plastic. The evap purge fitting is a threaded billet with an O-ring seal, and sensor mounts are CNC-machined with O-ring grooves. No cracked nipples, no chased leaks.
  • EBOV ready. All 2013+ trucks run an electronic blow-off valve. Our EBOV pipe connects it to the intercooler cleanly, with an anti-rotation bracket so it can't work itself loose under boost.
  • Built for the front end you actually want. Because the core moves up into the grille, this kit clears steel bumpers, winches, bull bars, snowplows, and prerunner setups that the stock location makes impossible. If an aftermarket bumper is anywhere in your plans, this is the intercooler that makes it work.
  • Designed for Durability. Constructed with TIG-welded end tanks and a high-strength, hand-fabricated steel lower support beam, this intercooler is built to last under tough conditions, unlike the OEM intercooler which is little more than an aluminum core that's been affixed to a couple of plastic end tanks.
  • Shutter Motor Limiter Kit (optional add-on). 2024+ F-150 and Raptor check for resistance from both grille shutter motors. Pull the shutters for this intercooler and both motors throw a code. The limiter kit gives each motor a machined aluminum stop to hit, so the light never comes on and you do not need a tune to hide it. One upper, one lower, both built for their own motor housing. Required on 2024+ trucks.

  • Upper Shutter Motor Extension Harness (optional add-on). With the shutters out, the upper motor is left hanging in the grille opening. This plug-and-play harness extends the connector so you can relocate the motor out of sight. Optional, but if you care how the front end looks, you will want it. Pairs with the limiter kit.

  • Warranty. Covered by a one-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Full-Race vs Competition

The stock charge air cooler on these trucks is undersized and poorly located, and charge temps can climb toward 220&deg;F at max load. When the computer sees hot charge air, it pulls timing to protect the engine and your truck slows down. In our own testing, that meant a 23 HP and 31 lb-ft fade from the factory unit over eight back-to-back pulls. The Full-Race Intercooler keeps charge temps down so the power you paid for stays there, pull after pull. </div> </div> <div> <button>What makes this different from other high-mount intercoolers?</button> <div> Two things. First, no plastic. Anywhere. Aluminum charge pipes, a threaded billet evap purge fitting, and CNC-machined O-ring sensor mounts replace every brittle factory plastic piece other kits reuse. Second, airflow engineering: an internally divided end tank that spreads charge air evenly across the whole core, and a cast aluminum Y-pipe that flows smoother than any hand-fabricated or silicone pipe. Other high mounts share the layout we introduced in 2011, but none of them match the engineering inside it. </div> </div> <div> <button>Should I run this or a stock-location intercooler?</button> <div> Honest answer: it depends on your truck and your plans. This kit is a longer install, but it delivers the strongest cooling on the market and it is the only way to go if you are running an aftermarket bumper, winch, or prerunner front end. If your truck works for a living or plays hard in the heat, it is worth the wrench time. </div> </div> <div> <button>How is this different from a stock-location intercooler?</button> <div> A stock-location upgrade is a quick, simple install with real gains over OEM. But even the best core in the factory spot inherits the factory spot's limits: low in the bumper, below the airflow, and in the way of any serious front-end upgrade. This kit moves the core into the grille, which unlocks maximum cooling and clears aftermarket bumpers, winches, and prerunner front ends. Longer install, bigger payoff. </div> </div> <div> <button>Can I add aftermarket front-end accessories after installing this intercooler?</button> <div> Yes, that is one of the biggest reasons to go high mount. The stock intercooler location conflicts with steel bumpers, bull bars, snowplows, and most other front-end upgrades. The Full-Race Intercooler clears virtually all of them. </div> </div> <div> <button>Will it work with my factory electronic blow-off valve?</button> <div> Yes. Every 2013+ EcoBoost F-150 runs an electronic blow-off valve, and this kit includes a dedicated EBOV pipe with an anti-rotation bracket for a clean, secure connection. </div> </div> <div> <button>What else do I need?</button> <div> On 2017 to 2023 trucks, nothing; the kit includes all hardware. The optional Upper Shutter Motor Extension Harness moves the remaining upper motor out of the grille opening. </div> </div> <div> <button>I have a 2024 or newer truck. Will I get a check engine light?</button> <div> Not if you install the Shutter Motor Limiter Kit along with the intercooler. 2024+ trucks check that both grille shutter motors meet resistance, and removing the shutters for the high-mount core means they do not. The limiters give each motor a stop, which keeps the truck satisfied without a tune. </div> </div> <div> <button>Is professional installation required?</button> <div> No, but plan for a real job, not a lunch-break swap. Follow the installation instructions and install video linked in the resources section and a competent DIYer can knock it out in a few hours. Or let us do it: we install what we engineer at our Phoenix shop. </div> </div> <div> <button>Does installing this intercooler affect my vehicle's warranty?</button> <div> Modifying your Raptor or F-150 EcoBoost with aftermarket parts can affect its warranty. Consult your warranty agreement or dealer to understand the impact on your coverage. </div> </div> </div> <script> document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", function () { const questions = document.querySelectorAll(".faq-question"); questions.forEach((question) => { question.addEventListener("click", function () { this.classList.toggle("active"); const answer = this.nextElementSibling; if (answer.style.display === "block") { answer.style.display = "none"; } else { answer.style.display = "block"; } }); }); }); </script> </body> </html>

What's Included

  • High-flow front-mount intercooler core: 3.5" thick bar-and-plate core flowing over 1000 CFM with less than 1 PSI pressure drop at 700+ HP airflow rates. 70% larger internal flow area than OEM, with oversized 10mm charge air and ambient air paths versus the typical 6.5mm.

  • Intercooler mounting beam: Hand-fabricated lower support beam in high-strength steel for rigidity and longevity.

  • Aluminum charge piping (hot and cold side): Upsized to 3" on both sides, with the threaded billet evap purge fitting and CNC-machined sensor mounts built in.

  • Cast aluminum Y-pipe: Stronger, better-fitting, and more aerodynamic than fabricated or silicone alternatives.

  • EBOV pipe with anti-rotation bracket: Clean connection for the factory electronic blow-off valve on all 2013+ trucks.

  • Complete hardware kit: 2-ply couplers, T-bolt clamps, piping, mounting brackets, horn relocation bracket, and everything else needed for a direct bolt-on installation.

  • Ceramic coating: Protect the core and clean up the look behind the grille with your choice of black or silver ceramic coating.

  • Shutter Motor Limiter Kit (optional add-on): 2024+ F-150 and Raptor check for resistance from both grille shutter motors. Pull the shutters for this intercooler and both motors throw a code. The limiter kit gives each motor a machined aluminum stop to hit, so the light never comes on and you do not need a tune to hide it. One upper, one lower, both built for their own motor housing. Required on 2024+ trucks.

  • Upper Shutter Motor Extension Harness (optional add-on): With the shutters out, the upper motor is left hanging in the grille opening. This plug-and-play harness extends the connector so you can relocate the motor out of sight. Optional, but if you care how the front end looks, you will want it. Pairs with the limiter kit.
