Titanium or Tool Steel?
Katech recommends titanium retainers for drag racing. For street, road racing, and endurance applications, Katech recommends the appropriate tool steel retainers instead.
Confirm valve, spring, lock, and installed-height compatibility when changing retainer configurations.
Fitment & Installation Notes
Verify that the replacement matches the existing valvetrain package. Engine designation and spring model alone do not establish complete installation compatibility.
- Confirm Valve Stem and Valve Lock Compatibility
- Inspect Springs and Locks for Wear or Damage
- Check Spring Installed Height and Spring Pressures
- Verify Coil Bind Clearance at Maximum Valve Lift
- Check Retainer-to-Seal and Retainer-to-Guide Clearance
- Follow Appropriate Valvetrain Inspection and Service Intervals
Why Choose Katech
Katech manufactures these retainers in Michigan and provides application guidance to help match component selection to the engine's intended use. The replacement format allows a compatible titanium-equipped valvetrain to be serviced one component at a time.
